Chemistry

A typical application is the thickness measurement of thin organic film on transparent substrates like glass or organic foils. For some applications opaque metallic films (e.g. Au) on transparent substrates are used as carriers for organic films.

In the last couple of IR ellipsometry has become very popular because of its sensitivity for very thin films and the absorption of characteristic molecule bonds, so the orientation of the molecules is able to be determined.
